Everybody Hates Chris, Everybody Hates Gout

Uprooted to a new neighbourhood and bussed to a predominantly white middle school two-hours away. Chris struggles to find his place while keeping his siblings in line at home and dealing with Joey the school bully.

When Chris gets an "F" in math on his report card, he resorts to desperate measures to hide the bad grade from his parents. Meanwhile, while at home sick with gout, Julius rediscovers his love of television soaps.

When Rochelle's father, Gene, dies unexpectedly, Julius and the kids grow increasingly concerned when Rochelle acts as if nothing's wrong. Meanwhile, Rochelle finds herself under constant criticism from her mother, Maxine.
